1:20 that he worked in Christ when he raised him from the dead and seated him at his right hand in the heavenly places,
In the 2017 Superbowl, Buick aired a commercial which featured Cam Newton playing quarterback on a pee-wee football team. This humorous commercial was intended to promote an automobile brand but also serves as a fitting visual illustration for Ephesians 1:20.
Paul is encouraging the Ephesian believers by praying they will mature in their faith and understanding of God’s power. The might and power of God referenced in this verse is from the Greek word ischuos (ἰσχυος) and energeia (ἐνεργεια), which suggest an operative power of manifested strength. More-so, the same power that God possesses was “wrought”, or “put forth power” in Christ. This power conquered death and the grave.
Like the Ephesian church, we should be encouraged. The same God who rose Jesus from the dead, lives in us. The same power that Christ used to heal the sick, is given to us through the Spirit.
Why should we fear? Why do we worry? Like the pee=wee football team who had Cam Newton played with an unfair advantage over the competition, the Devil has already been defeated. We should walk in confidence each day because we are champions!
